Case 1 – Stores using Legacy customer accounts
If your store uses Legacy customer accounts, your customers log in with an email and password.
*IMPORTANT NOTE*: Shopify only allows one-click impersonation for this type of account on Shopify Plus, using a feature called Multipass.
Because of this Shopify limitation:
- Only Shopify Plus stores can use one-click login
- Non-Plus stores must use alternative methods
2.1. For Shopify Plus Stores: One-Click Login with Multipass
Multipass is a secure Shopify Plus feature that lets you log in as a customer instantly – without needing their password.
Step 1 – Connect Multipass (One-time Setup)
If this is your first time using the app:
- Go to Settings → Customer accounts → Legacy customer accounts
- Find the Multipass section
- Enable it and copy your Multipass Secret
- Open the app’s settings
- Paste the secret into the field labeled Multipass Configuration
You only need to do this setup once.
Step 2 – Log In as the Customer
After Multipass is set up:
- Go to Customers in Shopify Admin
- Open the customer you want to assist
- Click More actions → MP Login as customer
- The app instantly logs you in as that customer using Multipass
No passwords, no email changes, no extra steps — just one click.
This is the fastest and most secure impersonation method available on Shopify.
2.2 For Non-Plus Stores: Multipass Is Not Available
If your store is not on Shopify Plus, Shopify does not provide Multipass.
This means:
- One-click login is not supported by Shopify on non-Plus stores
- The app will show a message explaining that Multipass requires Shopify Plus
- You may need to use the new customer accounts workflow instead (Case 2). You can contact us in case you have any questions.
