1. Get started with SP Surcharge Fee & Extra Fees
SP Surcharge Fee & Extra Fees lets you add extra charges and paid add-ons to your store. A fee can be required, optional for the shopper to add, or a set of options the shopper picks from.
For example, you can add a Recycling fee to certain products, offer Product protection on the product page, charge a Small order fee on low-value orders, or let shoppers choose Gift wrapping in the cart.

1.3. Set up your first fee
The Set up Surcharge Fee & Extra Fees guide on Home walks you through four steps:
- Turn on the app embed. Click Open theme editor, turn on the app embed, click Save, then come back and click Refresh status.
- Create your first fee. Click Browse templates, pick a template, edit it to fit your store and click Save. New fees are Active, so they go live when you save.
- Choose where fees appear. Click Open placement and add the fee blocks to your product page and cart page. Our team sets up the cart drawer for you.
- Preview a fee in your store. Click View store, add a product with a fee and place a test order. This step completes when the order comes in.
Important: The app embed adds fees to the cart in your live theme. While it is off, shoppers check out without your fees.
1.4. How fees work
Every fee follows the same pattern:
Conditions → Fee is added or offered
- If a product has the tag battery → Add a $3.00 recycling fee per item.
- If the cart subtotal is less than $25 → Add a $3.00 small order fee.
- If the shopper pays by credit card → Add a 2.5% card surcharge (Shopify Plus).
Each fee is made of four parts:
- Applies to: each matching product, or the whole order
- How shoppers get it: Required (added automatically), Optional (the shopper ticks a box) or Pick one (the shopper chooses an option)
- Price: a fixed amount, a percentage or a price tiered by subtotal
- Conditions and schedule: when the fee applies
Fees are added to the cart as their own line items, so shoppers see them in the cart, at checkout and on their order.
1.5. Home
Home greets you by name and shows your setup progress, fee performance and store health. Use Create fee to add a fee and View store to open your storefront.
If the app embed is off, a red Fees aren’t being added to carts banner appears at the top. Click Open theme editor, turn the embed on, click Save, then click Refresh status.
Setup guide
The guide shows how many steps are done, for example 2 of 4 done. Click a step to see what to do. Each step is marked done automatically when the app detects it.
Use the arrow to collapse the guide, or the X to dismiss it.
Fee performance
This card shows fees collected on orders from all sales channels. Pick 7 days, 30 days or 90 days. Each tile compares the period with the one before it.
| Tile | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Fee revenue | Total fees collected in the period |
| Orders with fees | Number of orders that include at least one fee |
| Add-on take rate | Share of orders that added an optional fee when it was offered |
| Avg. fees per order | Average fee amount per order with fees |
Below the tiles, a bar chart shows Fee revenue per day (per week for the 90-day range). Hover a bar to see the exact amount.
To download your data, click the export icon (Export orders with fees (CSV)). The file covers the selected range. If it is too large, it keeps only the newest orders, so choose a shorter range.
Top fees
Top fees lists your best-earning fees for the selected range, with Shopper choice, Orders, Take rate and Revenue. Click a fee name to edit it, or View all fees to open the Fees page.
Store health
Store health checks everything fees need to work. Click the refresh icon to check again, or Fix in Placement to fix a problem.
