5. Settings
Settings holds the options that apply to every fee. It has five tabs: Cart display, Orders, Checkout safety, Theme compatibility and Languages.
Change what you need on any tab, then click Save in the save bar. Your changes reach your store right away.
5.1. Cart display
Fees in the cart
Choose how fees show in the cart:
| Option | Best for |
|---|---|
| Under each product, plus order fees as lines (default) | Clearest for product fees like deposits and protection |
| One fee total under the subtotal | Tidy carts. Shoppers expand the total to see each fee. |
| Both | Shows the fee lines and also one fee total under the subtotal |
- Fee total label: the name of the fee total, up to 60 characters. Default: Fees & surcharges.
- Order of fees: Same as the Fees list, Highest amount first or Newest first. This changes only the display order, not how fees are charged.
Fee product
Fee lines are variants of one hidden product. It isn’t listed in search, collections or recommendations.
- Product title: the name of the fee product, up to 80 characters. Default: Fees & surcharges.
- Money format: leave it empty to use your store’s format. Use `` for 1,50 €.

5.2. Orders
- Order tag: added to every order that has a fee, so you can filter them in Shopify admin. Default: Has fees. Fees with their own tag add it as well.
- Default line item title: used for fees without their own line item title. Use
{fee}for the fee name and{product}for the product the fee is charged on. Default:{fee} – {product}, for example “E-waste recycling fee – Arc Espresso Machine”. - Fulfill fee lines automatically: marks fee lines as fulfilled when the order is paid, so they don’t sit in your unfulfilled queue. Product lines aren’t touched. On by default.
Important: {product} needs Shopify Plus. On other plans it is left out, and fee lines show “For: product name” under the title.
5.3. Checkout safety
Required fee check
The switch stops checkout when a required fee is missing from the order. It runs as a Shopify Function, so it also covers Buy it now and express checkout. The switch saves right away.
In Message shoppers see, write the message shown at the top of checkout, up to 300 characters. Default: A required fee is missing from your order. Go back to your cart to update it, then try again.
Card surcharge safety
These options apply to fees with the condition Payment method is any of Credit card. Both are on by default.
- Don’t charge card surcharges to shoppers in the EU, EEA and UK: surcharges on consumer cards are banned there, so the fee is skipped for those shipping countries.
- Warn me when a card surcharge is above 3%: Visa caps US surcharges at 3%, and some US states set their own limits. The fee editor shows a warning, but it never blocks the fee.
Important: These checks reduce risk but aren’t legal advice. Check the rules where you sell and your payment provider’s terms.
5.4. Theme compatibility
This tab shows your live theme and how well it is supported.
| Badge | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fully supported | Your theme is tested, for example Dawn, Horizon and their sister themes |
| Set up by our team | Our team set up a custom profile for your theme |
| Not tested yet | Your theme hasn’t been tested yet. Contact us if fees don’t look right. |
Under profile, keep Automatic to use the tested profile for your theme. It updates when you change themes. Choose Manual only if support asked you to.
To check your theme:
- Click Run diagnostics. Your store opens in a new tab and the app checks each cart surface.
- Come back to this tab once your store has loaded.
- Read the results, or click Check for new results.
Troubleshooting
Change these only if fees don’t look right in your cart. They are available in Manual mode.
| Option | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh the cart with your theme’s own sections | Redraws your cart in place after a fee changes. Turn off only if the drawer flickers. | On |
| Watch cart changes from other apps | Re-checks fees when upsell or bundle apps change the cart | On |
| Pause the checkout button while fees update | Prevents checking out mid-update on slow connections. Adds a short wait. | Off |
| Don’t announce fee updates to screen readers | Use if screen readers repeat cart updates twice | Off |
Use Custom CSS to change how fee blocks look in your store, for example .sp-fee-tag { background: #f6f6f6; }.
5.5. Languages
Translate the text shoppers see for each language your store publishes. Leave a field empty to use English.
- General strings: Fee total label, Required fee tag, Order add-ons heading, Skip option, Label before the product name on fee lines, Fee description link and Remove button
- Fee titles: one row per fee, to translate the title shoppers see
Note: If your store has one language, add more in Shopify’s Settings → Languages first.
