Create & manage fees

2. Create & manage fees

The Fees page lists every fee in your store. Here you create fees, check their status and revenue, change their order and act on several fees at once.

2.1. Create a fee

  1. On Fees, click Create fee.
  2. Pick a template. Use the tabs All, On products, On the order and At checkout, or Search templates.
  3. Click Use template. To build a fee yourself, click Start blank under Start from scratch.
  4. Change the price, conditions and wording (see Set up a fee), then click Save.

Important: New fees are Active, so they go live in your store when you save. To save without going live, set Status to Draft in the Summary card first.

Some templates come with an empty condition, for example Collection is any of. Pick the values or remove the condition before you save.

Important: Shopify runs checkout blocks only on Shopify Plus stores, so templates on the At checkout tab need Shopify Plus.

2.3. Fees list

Use the tabs All, Active, Scheduled, Draft and Paused to filter by status. Use Search fees to find a fee by name, and the Applies to filter to show Product, Order or Checkout fees.

2.4. Fee statuses

StatusWhat it means
ActiveLive in your store
Scheduled · dateGoes live on its start date
EndedThe end date has passed, so shoppers don’t see it. It shows under All.
DraftOnly you can see it. Shoppers don’t.
PausedShoppers don’t see it until you set it to Active
Needs Shopify PlusThe fee has payment, delivery or shipping address conditions, so it is never charged on your plan

Note: A fee set to Only on certain days shows Active every day, but it charges only on the days you picked.

2.5. Change the order of fees

On the All tab, use the up and down arrows on a fee to move it. The new order saves right away. The arrows show only when no search or filter is applied.

Fees higher in the list appear first in the cart. To sort them another way, go to Settings → Cart display. The list order also decides which fee wins when an exclusive group uses Charge the first in your fee list.

2.6. Bulk actions

Tick one or more fees, then choose an action:

  • Activate: sets the fees to Active. A fee whose start date is in the future shows Scheduled.
  • Pause: hides the fees from shoppers
  • Duplicate: creates a copy named (copy) as Draft, at the end of the list
  • Delete: removes the fees after you confirm

Important: Shoppers stop seeing a deleted fee right away. Past orders keep their fee lines and reports keep the revenue. You can’t undo a delete.
