Question 1: Why do I see a notification saying “invalid token” or why is my feed blank?

This issue occurs when:

  • The Instagram source or TikTok source revokes your token.
  • Expired access token.
  • You may change your access or password.
  • Platform policy/security changes.

To resolve this:

  • Go to Settings > Instagram connection or TikTok connection.
  • Reconnect your invalid account that you want.

Note: Avoid clicking Disconnect as this will remove all current feeds and data.

Question 2: What should I do when Instagram disables the Basic Display API on December 4th, 2024?

Instagram announced the deprecation of the Instagram Basic Display API, which can affect your Instagram feeds. To ensure that your feeds can display well, switch your personal account to a business account and reconnect your Instagram account before December 4th, 2024.

1. Step to change account to a business one:

  • Go to your Instagram profile.
  • Tap the menu icon in the top right corner.
  • Scroll down to Account type and tools.
  • Choose Switch to Professional Account.
  • Pick the category that best fits your business.
  • You can choose between a Creator or Business account, depending on what best suits your needs.
    • Creator Account: Perfect for content creators, influencers, artists, and public figures who want to manage their personal brand.
    • Business Account: Ideal for businesses and brands that are focused on building a customer base and increasing sales.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to link your Instagram account with a Facebook page and add your contact details.

And that’s it! Once your business account is up and running, you’ll no longer be connected to the Basic Display API.

2. Steps to reconnect:

  • Go to Mageplaza Instagram Feed > Preferences > Account > Change Account.
  • Reconnect your current Instagram account.

Note: Always stay logged into Instagram in your browser. Avoid clicking Disconnect, as this will remove all current feeds and data.

Question 3: Error message: “OAuthException: Your account’s future activity history off Meta technologies is currently turned off. Please visit Account Center to change it.”

This error appears if the Your Activity Off-Meta setting is disabled, which restricts data sharing (images, videos, and reels) with widgets outside Meta (like Mageplaza Instagram Feed).

To show Instafeed on your store, please enable data sharing:

  • Access Off-Facebook Activity (for Facebook) or Instagram Settings (for Instagram).
  • Select Manage Future Activity.
  • Tick Connect future activity to allow our app to access your account data.
  • Click the Continue button to save the change.
  • Return to the Mageplaza Instagram Feed and reconnect your Instagram account.

Note: The changes in your Off-Facebook Activity can be saved immediately, or it may take an hour.

Question 4: Why are some posts missing after syncing?

If you notice certain posts aren’t appearing in your feed after synchronization, this may be due to the following reasons:

Instagram API Limitations: Instagram doesn’t allow syncing tagged or collaborative content from Personal accounts. This means any posts you are tagged in or collaborate on that originate from or involve an affected Personal account will not sync or display. Learn more

Other possible causes include:

  • Age restrictions on posts
  • Instagram privacy settings (e.g., posts from Private accounts cannot be synced)
  • Copyright restrictions on content

Solutions:

  • For posts from Personal accounts: Ask the account owner to switch to a Professional (Business or Creator) account
  • You can still sync your own posts normally
  • If the missing posts aren’t essential, you can proceed with the successfully synced content

For immediate updates, we recommend manually checking your posts after synchronization.

Question 5: How to automatically translate your Instagram feed on the storefront?

Step 1: Enable auto-translation

  • In your Shopify Admin, go to Instagram Feed Mageplaza > Translation.
  • Toggle on:
    • General information: Auto-translates headings, subheadings, and button labels.
    • Media content: Automatically translate media captions and content within the feed.

Step 2: Select and install the feed

  • Go to Manage Feeds > Add new feed.
  • After you create a feed, copy Feed ID and click “Preview on theme” button.

Step 3: Display the feed in your theme

  • In your Shopify Theme Editor, go to the section where you want to show the feed.
  • Add the Instagram Feed Mageplaza app block.
  • Paste the copied Feed ID into the block settings.

Step 4: Preview your storefront

  • Click View to preview the feed live on your storefront.
  • Use the language switcher (at the bottom of your store) to select any available language.
  • All content on the page — including your Instagram Feed — will automatically display in the selected language.

Note: Beneath each translated feed, customers can click “See original” to view the original Instagram content in its source language.

Question 6: “400 Session Invalid” when connecting to Instagram

When attempting to connect your Instagram account, you might encounter a “400 Session Invalid” error. This is a known issue originating from Instagram’s website. It typically occurs because Instagram retains an expired session in your account, often due to no interaction with the app for 90 days.

Unfortunately, since this problem is not related to our app, we cannot directly fix it. However, many users have successfully resolved this by refreshing their Instagram session using the following workarounds:

To resolve this:

1. Clear browser data:

  • Delete cookies and cache. (Right-click > Inspect > Application > Storage > Click “Clear site data”).
  • Try connecting in incognito/private Browse mode.

2. Try alternative access methods:

  • Use a different device (e.g., a mobile device instead of a desktop, or vice versa).
  • Switch to another browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari).

3. Network solutions:

  • Connect through a different network or IP address.
  • Try using mobile data instead of Wi-Fi (or vice versa).

4. Account refresh:

  • Log out of Instagram completely.
  • Close your browser/app.
  • Log back into Instagram.
  • Attempt to connect again.

5. Review your future activity on meta technologies:

  • Check the Mageplaza Instagram feed status: Access Instagram.com > Settings > Website permissions > Apps and websites:
    • If the Mageplaza Social Feed-IG is listed under “Active”: Click “Remove” next to the app, then return to our app and “Reconnect” your account.
    • If the Mageplaza Social Feed-IG is listed under “Expired”: You’ll need to clear your account’s activity by navigating to Meta settings > Your information and permissions -> Your activity off Meta technologies.
      • Under “Clear previous activity”, click the “Clear” button.
      • Under “Manage future activity”, select the “Disconnect” future activity option > Continue > Disconnect future activity. Then, return and re-select the “Connect future activity” option.

Important Note: Performing this step (Option 5) may affect the functionality of other apps connected to your Meta account. If all else fails, wait approximately one hour, then try connecting again using incognito/private Browse mode.
