What happens to a guest’s wishlist when they log in?
Shoppers don’t need an account to use the wishlist. Here’s how saving works before and after they log in.
Saving as a guest
- A guest can save items right away, without creating an account.
- Their wishlist is kept in the browser they used, so they see it when they come back on the same browser.
- If the shopper’s browser blocks site storage (for example, some private browsing modes), items can’t be saved until they log in.
When a guest logs in
- The items they saved as a guest move into their customer account automatically.
- If an item was already in their account’s wishlist, it’s kept once, with the earlier save date.
- From then on, their wishlist follows their account, so they see it on any device where they log in.
When a shopper logs out or switches accounts
The wishlist saved in the browser is cleared. This way, the next person who uses the same browser doesn’t see the previous shopper’s wishlist. Items saved to the account stay in the account and come back when the shopper logs in again.
What you see in the admin
- Logged-in customers appear on the Customers page with their saved items.
- Guests don’t appear as rows. Their saves are counted in the Guests saving and Saved while logged out numbers on the Analytics page.
