Get started with SP Smart Shipping & Batching

Introduction

Welcome! This guide will help you get familiar with SP Smart Shipping & Batching. The app is built for Shopify merchants who need accurate shipping fees, smarter batching, and streamlined coordination with their warehouse or fulfillment teams. You don’t need technical skills – everything is handled through simple, admin-friendly settings.

What does this app do?

  1. Calculate shipping fees using real product dimensions, fallback dimensions, DIM factor, surcharges, and custom carrier methods.
  2. Create and manage carrier methods with flexible rates, minimum charges, ETA ranges, and custom settings like surcharges and DIM factors per method.
  3. Group eligible orders into batches based on different rules: order/weight/volume thresholds, company batch (with locations), geographic zone, desired delivery date, and carrier method.
  4. Manage each batch through a clear lifecycle (Pending → Collecting → Ready to dispatch → Dispatched → Delivered).
  5. Notify your WMS or operations team automatically using customizable email templates.
  6. Allow customers to choose a future delivery date at checkout and define excluded dates (holidays, blackout days). (Note: This feature is available on Shopify Plus stores only.)
  7. Apply product dimension rules or fallback dimensions when Shopify data is missing, ensuring every order can be rated and batched correctly.

Before you begin

  • A Shopify store with admin access.
  • Permission to open Online Store → Themes and enable the app embed.
  • Basic shipping information ready (carrier pricing, DIM factor, surcharge details).
  • (Optional) Email recipients for warehouse notifications.

Installation and first-time setup

Step 1: Install the app

  1. From Shopify admin, go to Apps.
  2. Open the Shopify App Store.
  3. Search for SP Smart Shipping & Batching.
  4. Click Install and approve permissions.
  5. You will be redirected to the app Dashboard.

Step 2: Enable the app on your storefront

If you see a yellow banner like “SP Smart Shipping & Batching is currently not displayed on your site**”:

  1. Click Enable app
    • The app will automatically enable the embed for you – no action needed in the Theme Editor.
  2. Once that’s done, click Refresh status to see the updated status.
    • The banner will disappear once the app is active.

Step 3: Quick configuration checklist

Once installed, complete the essential setup:

  • Create at least one Carrier Method (required).
  • Configure your DIM factor, fallback dimensions, and surcharge settings.
  • Set up Product Dimension Rules, if your product data is incomplete.
  • Create Batch Rules to control how orders are grouped.
  • Enable and configure Email Notifications for WMS or operations teams.

Dashboard overview

The Dashboard gives you a quick view of your setup and shipping activity:

  • Setup Guide - track progress across key steps:
    • Carrier Methods
    • Batching Configuration
    • Notifications
  • Overview metrics (last 30 days) - see active carrier methods, ready to dispatch batches, and orders in batch.
  • Enable/Disable app - control whether the app is active on your storefront.
  • Help Desk – access documentation, FAQs, feature request, and contact support.
